The Board of Directors of the U.S. Center for SafeSport has begun the formal search for the organization’s next chief executive officer and chief financial officer and retained global consulting firm Korn Ferry to lead the search.
SafeSport fired former CEO Ju’Riese Colón in April, ending to a tenure that began in 2019. SafeSport board chair April Holmes has led an interim management committee composed of board members for the past three months.
The U.S. Center for SafeSport is the only organization authorized by Congress to prevent and respond to allegations of abuse within Olympic and Paralympic sport. The Board has established two search committees, one for the CEO and one for the CFO, comprising Board members and advisors with relevant expertise.
SafeSport says the roles “demand vision, empathy, and a deep connection to the athletes and sport communities the Center serves.” The organization selected Korn Ferry for its global reach, candidate evaluation methodologies and track record of aligning talent with organizations.
“Given the weight of this decision, the Board is taking a deliberate approach to ensure a fair and thorough process,” said Chicka Elloy, Board vice chair and search committee lead. “This is more than a job search. It is a reflection of our values and the people we are accountable to — our staff, athletes, and the broader sport community.”
Korn Ferry has completed stakeholder interviews and is currently conducting organizational assessments and confidential outreach to identify candidates. The process integrates staff feedback, recent strategic evaluations and market analysis. Final candidates will be evaluated not only on qualifications but also on their ability to lead with courage, transparency and care.
